In late August, City of Lynwood officials gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 204th Street SW Extension and Improvement Project. Throughout the ceremony, speakers emphasized a central theme of collaboration and the power of partnerships as one of the success factors of this $6.1 million project.
A new connector to SR-99 was constructed from 68th Avenue W, providing better access to Edmonds Community College. The project also constructed the City's first-ever roundabout at 204th/68th and a new traffic signal at 204th/SR-99.
Harris & Associates provided construction management services for the project led by Harris Construction Manager Phillip Riggins and supported by Phil Gagnier, Scott Larkin and Justine Hara-Schwisow. At the grand opening ceremony, the School District Superintendent commended Phil for maintaining the project's collaborative spirit on the job site, emphasizing the excellent communication between construction staff and the surrounding community.
The project's partners included City, Edmonds Community College, the Edmonds School District and State and Federal agencies. The City contributed around $3.1 million with approximately $1.1 million provided through federal transportation grants and Department of Housing and Urban Development grants. The state Transportation Improvement Program provided $1.5 million and the state Department of Commerce contributed $250,000. Edmonds Community College contributed $140,000 and the Edmonds School District provided almost $50,000.
Other elements of the project included bicycle paths and walkways for safer access to the school. The project completed slightly ahead of schedule and in time for classes to start.
