Harris Wins Project Achievement Award from CMAA Southern California Chapter

California Education Awards Program + Construction Management

    Los Angeles, CA -

The Southern California Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) awarded Harris & Associates with a 2013 Project Achievement Award. The award recognized the Los Angeles City College (LACC) Student Union Building project in the category of Building New Construction, $11-50 Million Construction Value.

The $30.6 million, 65,000-square-foot building will provide a much-needed gathering area for the LACC campus community. Located in the center of campus, the Student Union building serves as an ideal meeting space and is home to the LACC Foundation, Student Life offices, a computer lab, and associated student organizations. Amenities include a bookstore, a coffee shop, a food court, and dining and meeting spaces.

Harris & Associates served as the construction manager on the project, overseeing the selection process of the program criteria architect and design-build team, and overall quality management on the project. The Student Union is also a part of the Los Angeles Community College District’s (LACCD) sustainable building program, and the project team is pursuing LEED Gold certification. Sustainable features include increased water efficiency, reduced energy consumption, concrete structures, solar panels, and enhanced indoor air quality, among others.

“We are proud of this distinction from the CMAA Southern California Chapter,” said Program Director Chris Dunne. “We value our relationship with LACCD and this project serves as a great example of the value of collaboration between a construction manager and other project team members during construction.”

In June 2006, LACC selected Harris & Associates to provide campus-wide project and construction management (CM) services related to the implementation of the college’s $569 million Proposition A/AA/J bond program and their $75 million new Northeast Satellite Campus, a total program of $664 million. Additionally, Harris is currently providing program management, design management, contract administration, procurement, project controls, financial and program reporting services for LACC.

CMAA Southern California Chapter’s Annual Awards Program recognizes outstanding achievement in the practice of construction management.
