Las Vegas, NV -

Mayor Pro Tem Stavros S. Anthony, who represents Ward 4, was joined by Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Chief Mike Myers and representatives from the Summerlin Sun City community to open the new station.

The new fire station cost approximately $3.3 million and is a 7,800-square-foot, LEED Silver certified building. Fire Station 107 is located in the Summerlin Sun City residential development of western Las Vegas.

The project’s location is key to Sun City’s senior citizen population. It will reduce response times from seven minutes to four minutes, giving residents greater peace of mind. Sun City provided the land for the fire station after the City provided funding, design and reconstruction of an existing golf course tee to accommodate the station. The station’s aesthetics greatly enhances the adjacent commercial business without distracting from the golf course or the surrounding homes.

Harris & Associates provided staff augmentation to the City for construction management services. The Harris team worked with the City’s third-party commissioning agent to help facilitate an on-time startup and to meet LEED Silver requirements.

“We are proud to have been a part of such an important project in the Summerlin Sun City community,” said Patrick Skrabanek, manager of construction management services for Harris’ Las Vegas area office. “Harris has a strong relationship with the City in providing expertise for new fire stations, and we hope to continue to grow and develop that relationship in the future.”

The station interior consists of two engine bays with turn-out rooms for firefighting gear and equipment, as well as personnel facilities. The interior space includes a full commercial kitchen and dining room, a gym, and a day room for fire training, meetings, and entertainment and relaxation activities. The outside glassed-in courtyard with a multicolored LED lighting systems enhances the overall appeal of the facility within the community. The exterior landscaping includes outside relaxation areas, a gas barbeque range, private seating and dining area.
